Biolab
is the ESA facility to perform biological experiments
in space, to study the effect of microgravity and space
radiation on samples as cell cultures, small invertebrates,
micro-organisms, small plants.
Biolab
is developed as part of the ESA Microgravity Facilities
for Columbus (MFC) programme.
Biolab
will be flown on the ESA Columbus Module, part of the
International Space Station.
Biolab is integrated
into an International Standard Payload Rack. The left
side of the Biolab, the so called automated Core Unit
is were the experiments are actually performed. The
right side, the manual section, is mainly used for sample
storage and specific crew activities.
