Beagle 2 Lander
Beagle 2, integrated onto the ESA Mars Express
spacecraft, was launched from Baikonur on June
2nd 2003 on a Soyuz/Fregat rocket supplied by
Starsem, a system which has proved itself during
four test flights carried out in 2000.
When folded up,
the Beagle 2 lander resembles a very large pocket
watch. This is the state in which it passed
the long journey to Mars, attached to one side
of the Mars Express spacecraft underneath the
umbrella of its heat resistant shield.
