The Guarniero models is used
in this illustration.
|
Planck
will be launched in the year 2007, together with ESA's
next infrared and sub millimetre space observatory,
Herschel Space Observatory. Both satellites will separate
after launch to operate independently at a distance
of 1.5 million kilometres from Earth.
Its
ultimate goal will be to help astronomers in deciding
which theories describing the birth and evolution
of the Universe are correct and which, on the contrary,
should be discarded.
Planck
will carry a telescope with a primary mirror of 1.5
meter in size. The telescope will focus radiation
from the sky onto the payload, two arrays of highly
sensitive detectors called the Low Frequency Instrument
and the High Frequency Instrument.
|
They
will measure the temperature of the Cosmic Microwave
Background radiation over the whole sky, searching
for regions slightly warmer or colder than the
average.
An
Ariane-5 launcher will launch Herschel in 2007.After
detailed studies, ESA has decided to launch
Planck together with Herschel, a mission to
study the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation.
The two spacecraft will be separated early after
launch and will operate independently.

The model created
using advanced design- and manufacturing techniques.
The scale model has been made exactly matching the
authentic designs, respecting all details.
The model comes in
three sizes; 1:4, 1:10 and a tablemodel. The 1:4 and
1:10 models can be fitted to a support which can be
made to your specifications
